Marist Town aka Madrid Vs Naenae

In couple of words this match had it all, A Taxi Driver, A come back from Retirement, Tackles that would make your mother cry from watching and not to forget a little football.

Well on turning up at Naenae park it was discovered that the team was of reduced size in fact only 9 players, so from football retirement out come chopper cotton to make it a nice 10 Marist players then the most strangest ting happen a cab arrived out of no where like a taxi god and out come Victor not Victor Kahu but Victor Cabo, well that may not be his real name but it sounds dam good though.

Any way with now 11 players and after a great team talk in the sheds of just having a bit of fun and if we lost by only one goal it would be a victory, we hit the field.

The game started off with most of the play being in the Marist half and shots coming from everywhere from the Naenae side, but some how every shot managed to be blocked or cleared away. It stayed this way for the first 15 minutes until a poor clearance by yours truly straight to a Naenae player who just blasted it back over my head into the right hand corner, yep bugger it. The first half continued much the same way with Naenae pouring on the pressure with most of there chances either just going wide or where subbed out by the defence.

While at half time being only 1 down we thought we had not done so bad and thought well maybe there is a chance of sneaking a win if we could get the ball down the other end of the pitch.

The second half started off with a Marist team that looked like it had been reborn, which saw passing that was going to the Man, some nice foot work by Jonny M & Marcus in the middle seeing some nice breaks and with Cotton able to hold the ball up in the middle of the park which made a huge difference to able to help out Marcus, Jonny M & Dan M in the middle of the park.

With the pressure now going all on the Naenae team it was not long before the cracks started to appear which saw a ball feed through to Brad to get on the outside of his man and head towards the goal on the break and then with his RIGHT foot managing to slot the ball past the keeper to even up the score. This then saw the tone of the match change with some tough tackles going in around the park, with Jonny M probably being the most targeted of the tacklers and is probably lucky to still have some legs after some of the challenges.

With not letting the tackles get in the way of the game, Brad was sent on another break away through another through ball which he managed to run it in and put past the keeper with another RIGHT footer to make it 2 - 1. This then opened up the flood gates which saw attack after attack from the Marist team only to be denied by the Keeper or some LEFT foot shots that could have been slotted, who that person will remain nameless. From a corner that Marist won Dan M had a decent shot which was unlucky to be denied by a hand ball on the line by a Naenae player protecting his face (what's up with that) and get this no hand ball Crickey I say.

Any way the game continued and yet again Brad pounced on another through ball, which I think was from the "Scud" Jonny Cameron which the Naenae player made a hash off, Brad took his time and then managed to Nail it under the keeper with his RIGHT foot to make it 3-1 (the most goals scored in a game all season for the Marist Town boys). With now 15 minutes left the most of the game was played in the Marist half as Naenae pushed forward looking for a goal to put the pressure on but with Phil and Westie and Jonny and myself able to clear the chances that where presented to the Naenae team that is how the game ended with an unlikely 3-1 win to the Marist boys.

Marist Town 2 Waterside Kaori 2

Well another great saturday for soccer wasn't it, freezing cold winds and a little rain just to make those slide tackles a little more interesting isn't that right Jonny Cameron.
Any way being a little short on men on the weekend we started the game with only 1 sub so we all knew that we were in for a long game and that if anyone happened to get injured it would have to be a dam good broken leg to be coming off. The game started off with a see saw battle of soccer with both teams making breaks but none coming to much as both defenses managing to snuff out any real chances. The game quickly progressed to the 15 minute mark where Dan Mass and Jonny Martin worked a move down the left hand flank to see the ball be crossed across the Karori goal month to Jonny Smith who manage to turn and slot it passed the Kaori goal keeper to make it 1 nil to the Marist Town boys. The first continued on with more pressure from the Marist boys and where unlucky to see Dan Mass just miss one past the left hand post follow up and also for Phil Smith to put one just wide outside the right hand post.
The Second half saw our only substitution of the match we G coming on to make his first appearance in the Marist colors and Dan Mass coming off after the best match he has played all year (Nice runs mate). The second half saw allot more pressure applied by the Karori Team which saw them get a break down the left hand side where they manage to cut the ball in and cross it across the Marist goal month only for our new star striker Jonny Cameron to power it into the back of the Marist net well trying to clear the ball from the impending Karori striker breathing down his neck, ( Unlucky Jonny mate) 1 all.
This spurred the boys on after seeing the goal and before you knew little G was off on a run down the left hand flank, he manage to beat a defender and send a cross into the box where Jonny Martin was waiting and headed the ball into the Karori net to make it 2-1 to the Marist Town boys. With the score now looking like the previous heated match between the teams tensions where high in the Marist Camp trying to ground out a result (in the words of cotton). With a minute remaining and with some great defending the boys thought they may have done enough for the win only for the Karori team to win a corner and put the pressure on in the finally stages. The ball from the Karori corner was a good one and was strike into the middle of the box and was initial cleared by the Marist boys but not far enough as one of Karori players manage to get to the ball and get a strike away only to see Westie get up to try and head the ball away but it ended up taking a a deflection into the Marist Net to make it 2 all (Not much that could be done Westie, but it was good seeing the ball fly over my head into the goal)
And that is how it ended, close but not close enough for the 3 points.

Town 1 - 2 Rangers

After last weeks result the confidence was high among the boys that a result was possible against the tough Miramar Rangers battle who the Marist Town team have either been smashed in the past against or come away with a great win.

The game started off with the toss won by us and we decided to go into the wind as knowing Wellington the wind would pick up in the afternoon. The start of the match was very even but with the majority of the play in the Marist town half due to the strong wind making near on impossible to play the ball in the air in our true lofted style of football (This is probably been picked up by some little African nation that doesn't even play soccer in the wind, and probably does not even have soccer balls, but hey we will give it a dam good go).

Any way the with the wind at the Miramar backs they decided that they will also start playing like the little African country style football and put a ball over the top, which landed perfectly for the Miramar striker who controlled it and managed to slot it past Anthony at the back. 1-0 Miramar Rangers, after 15 minutes. While after seeing this the boys started to play some good football and managed to to play the ball around and get some good breaks, and results where quickly found with a through ball from the middle of the park, being slotted around the defenders legs to set Big Banger Brad away on a 40 yard run, to slot the ball past the keeper to even up the tally 1 all after 25 minutes. The rest of the first half stayed tight with Most attacks on each goals being snubbed out.

Second Half

The second half was again another tug of war with Miramar Pouring on the attack and for it to be snubbed out at the back, and a few breaks coming for the the Marist Town boys, Well it would have been great for the game to end 1 all but the Miramar boys kept on with the pressure and got a break down the right hand side and managed to slot it past Anthony on a tight angle 2-1 to Miramar. The game continued on at great pass and Dan V managed to get a shot away from the outside of the box to have everyone beaten except for the round bar which bounced it back only to be cleared by the Miramar defense. (just think if they still made those square post it would been 2 all.) The attacks continued from the Marist boys and a shot from a very different looking Andy F just went over the crossbar.

That just about sums it up, it was a close game which was one for the taking and just got away from the boys but again it shows that the team is still improving and that with a bit of luck we will be on the right side of the result soon. Any way all I say is bring on Saturday as it is the Marist Town (Madrid) Versus the Marist (Real) should be a classic and after last year revenge should be on the cards.

We wiz robbed

Well, on a great Wellington day the Marist Town boys turned up to Karori Park in the anticipation of actually playing some decent soccer.

On everyone's arrival it was discovered that Russ was not going to be there and was apparently in hospital. The general consensus on this topic was somehow Russ had managed to bargain his soul for a new liver or kidney or god knows what else that he may need. Anyway, in the absence of the Coach, our 1st Captain (injury) and our 2nd Captain (injury) responsibility came down to the two old wise heads of Marcus and Danny V to come up with the team line up. The game started off with the wind behind the Marist Town in the first half and some nice balls through gave a few early chances to the Strikers up front Charlie and Brad, but before we knew it a break from the Karori team down the left hand side had the back line scrambling and a cross from the left flank saw the ball float over Anthony head and to the left post where their striker was waiting and able to knock in. 1-0 to Karori.

But for the first time this year the heads in the team did not drop and the boys dug deep and within 5 minutes a nice through ball to Charlie saw a spectacular left foot strike into the right hand corner ofthe net, 1 all. The Marist town boys took a lot ofconfidence from the goal and led to more attacks , but the ball failed to find the back of the net. Half time 1 all.

The second half only had one change to the line up with Phil coming onfor Brad up front (I have to say Phil, nice honest refereeing in the first half). The second half started well for the boys with a lot of attack coming down both flanks and after 10 minutes the reward was found. After some nice passing the ball got to Little Phil who managed to back one in to the left hand corner. This goal spurred the Kaori side on. They put on the pressure but some great goal keeping from Anthony saw their attacks flushed out, after a while the refereeing became a little one sided with a 3 meter off-side by two players off not called. Lucky enough those big hands of Anthony managed to save us. With 3 minutes left and Kaori hot on attack you guessed it - a hand ball was called for in the box!!! (If the hand ball was in the box it must have been the biggest goal box I would have seen in my life) but we won't go there. The ball was placed down on the spot and a shot to the left had Anthony beaten diving to his left 2-2.

The game then finished with a few frustrated players feeling robbed, but unfortunately that is the way some games go and all I can say is remember the refereeing in the Naenae game. Anyway a point is point and I think that is the best the Marist Town team has played in a long time, lots of support from everyone, from front to back passing was great and it shows you if we are willing to try a few shots we can score and we can win. Points for the Game (But everyone deserves points)

3. Anthony (Once he got going he was a machine at the back)
2. Charlie(Running the game from the front)
1. Jonny M (Ran all day , and passed some great balls to start the breaks)

Island Bay CM 1-0 Marist

Firsly, this is a game we really should have won.
Secondly, this is a game we never should have lost.

But you can't win games without scoring goals, and you can't score goals without creating chances. You can't create chances if you don't get near their goal, especially so if you don't have the ball.

Marist Town 1 - 7 Upper Hutt

(to be rapped in the style of Eminem … DJ, spin that shit)

Yo, … listen up,
Everybody in the Kill-burn-Ee!

Shut it dawg - I know what you goan say ‘bout me
We can talk about that brilliant goal another day

But how come thirteen dicks are just one big pussy
And it took our one black guy to make Upper Hutt stutter.

Yo honkees - it’s forty five minutes – not forty five seconds
We rapped dope for a while but that was when we were undressing

Our rear is so weak we should think about protection
So Tony, wear a helmet next week or you might get knocked out.

And Vince, if in doubt - here’s something for free -
You don’t need to wear rubber when
You just need to give head.

C’mon - shit – dawgs - it ain’t time for bed
Wake the fuck up man, we’ve only played four
It’s the triple H next week or Cool Moves or some other Bay shit!
So pass me that joint, I need a hit.

No – stop – wait a minute –What was I thinkin’
Even the smell of grass slackens the sphincter
A whiff of it and we can hardly speak.
Is it we’re meek like a mouse or a bird that can’t tweet
Sheet, I bet Russ’s ex-wife made more noise in the sack.

Yo – somebody – please! - take this mic back.

(speaking of Mike, that reminds me …Fuck it felt good to score the only goal on Westie’s birthday!)

Town 0 - 7 Naenae

Was I at the game? I hear you ask.
Eh, no I didn’t see it with my eyes likes,
a
h wis at a wedding on the South Island
where celebrating was the task,
willingly accomplished
with plenty of bottle.

One down, two down, three then four,
if I keep this up I'll be on the floor.
I wonder where the lads are now?

I wish I was there
never mind, drink some mair.
Hey Missus, can you fill my glass -
over a throng of heads to my stretching grasp
a sparkling, bubbly, fizzing pass
that I knock down nicely.
A
nd that’s five now.

Ding, ding, ding - a break in the action.
We quiet down and gather roun’
to hear some speeches
about hard work, trust and the simple things.
The very fabric of this beautiful game
that they are
calling … life?

And now, what’s this (after such good advice)
handed to me on a plate?
It is
a piece of cake.

Here we go.
T
he talking’s over.
B
ack into it now in a blaze of glory.
I down another to make it six,
getting up to some ridiculous tricks.
My banters great, and I think - Man, I am flowing.

The reality however
is a different story.
Better make the next one a large whisky.

Gulp. Seven down in the first hour and a half
